On Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 8am EDT, SPIDA’s map tile provider will change from ESRI to Bing Maps.
What does this mean?
- There will be no product downtime required for the update, but users may experience lag in loading map tiles in the SPIDAcalc and/or SPIDAstudio Map View for a short period of time – up to one hour – after the update is complete.
- When the update is complete, the map tiles will load from Bing Maps, which look slightly different than the current ESRI map tiles.
- This update will not impact any asset service configurations or integrations.
What if I don’t notice any changes to the map tiles after October 2?
- SPIDAcalc: If Base Layers were changed in users’ local map.groovy to leverage another base layer map, those base layers will be retained and Bing Maps will not be used.
- SPIDAstudio: If the Map Layers are configured to a URL other than “https://map.spidastudio.com/World_Street_Map”, “https://map.spidastudio.com/World_Imagery”, or “https://map.spidastudio.com/Light_Grey_Base”, then the Map Layers configured will be retained and Bing Maps will not be used. You can find this configuration on the Map Layers tab of the Admin page along the left side of the window.
What action do I need to take prior to October 2?
- SPIDAstudio: If “https://map.spidastudio.com/World_Street_Map”, “https://map.spidastudio.com/World_Imagery”, or “https://map.spidastudio.com/Light_Grey_Base” Map Layers are in use, review the Operation Path field to confirm that “export” is not in use. If the Map Layer is configured with Operation Path = export as shown below, please submit a support ticket.
Thank you, and please submit a support ticket if there are any questions.
